The 22 days in Portugal
This has been the first and will be the only post about Portugal, but do not be disappointed. 22 days in one post will hopefully satisfy the hungry eyes of the people reading this.
First up why I have not posted anything while in Portugal? Come on people I was on vacation. I posted some photos to show that I was alive at least right?
After boarding a plane at LAX on a Sunday I arrived to the Lisbon airport. Lisbon is the capitol of Portugal and the oldest city in Western Europe. Now that the quick history lesson is over back to the narrative.
I was travelling alone and meeting my two friends Simon and Sam Einstein. Upon exiting the plane I went straight to the oversized luggage belt. Located and the furthest possible point of the airport. Expecting a board bag I waited patiently as oversized luggage usually takes longer to receive. Connecting to the free 30 mins of wifi to contact the two as I expect that to be adequate time from the current point in time for the board bag to show up. Both of the Einstein's were at the airport. Nearly an hour later still no board bag. It didn't show up.
"Take a ticket Please"
I had to make a claim which would be quick and easy if I lived there/ new the address I was staying at or even have an International phone plan with a working number. But I didn't. Cha-ching; I had to pay for an extension on my airport wifi so I could contact the two. After finally placing the claim I grabbed the paper work; my camera bag; and back pack exiting the airport. Looking around slightly confused, it was cold, trying to find the two Einstein's. Simon and I are both blind(basically) turns out we both looked at each other a couple times confused not realizing who each other were. I guess after 2 feet everything looks the same.
Greetings and Exchanges then a Quick ATM run.
No we both took the metro.
Public transportation is great here.
~Off to Indentente, the stop was steps from the front gate of Sam's fourth story flat.
At this point we have arrived to the Occasion of the very first photo. Before Sunset out the back balcony. Overwhelmed by the city I relax after a long day of travel.
Now were to the second picture. Where is when I learned that nearly a quarter of the Buildings surrounding his apartment building were abandoned. Which was quite surprising to me as we were nearly in the center of the city and across the street was one of if not the most famous restaurant in Lisbon , Ramiro.
Right down stairs there is a liquor store 30 feet away or the Indian market right across the street. These two places were definitely a frequent visit. For the record the market was an actual market as well with fresh produce.
Well two days later Sam got a call at seven in the morning the delivery man for Air France had brought the board bag. It was a relief. Quickly looking in the bag to check how everything was it turned out there was a nice search before it left the US. Resulting in a nice cut in the front panel of the board bag and all the protective measures I had packed the boards with being rendered useless. Thanks for the dings. Later that morning though we went surfing at Costa da Caparica. It was really small and we knew that but I was frothing to surf in Europe and after a short but sweet session we warmed up with an ice cold beer.
I have decided at this moment, out of coffee, this will be a multiple part story of my journey. I should change the title to last days of 2014 in Portugal.
Wait thats not the golden gate. It actually is just the same exact bridge by the same designer just crossing a different major shipping bay. This bridge was only used for us the couple times we surfed the place I had previously describe, it will come up later. A mellow night once we get home home cooked dinner and some relaxation the next day......New Years Eve.
Til Next time(maybe later tonight probably not though)
This Sentence will eventually Link to Part 2
